Kayaking for Inspiration

It was about 75 here in the desert this week, so a few of us, all artists, decided to go for an adventure down the Colorado River a couple of miles south of here. The water was like glass and we did 10 miles. It was the first time out for me in a year. Needless to say, I was hurtin' the next day, but energized! It's so quiet out there with no cars, no phones, no noise except the pairs of mallard ducks who quack by looking for some grub. We did see a beautiful Gray Heron that flew over and a very large hawk. It was nice to get out and into the natural and check out the rocks, shadows, and the sprigs of green now coming up. Guess Spring's here! That's the only way we can tell in the desert! Happy Trails to you!

"Art is contemplation. It is the pleasure of the mind which searches into nature and there defines the spirit of which Nature herself is animated."
Auguste Rodin

  1. Sounds like a wonderful day! I enjoy the early mornings when I'm the only one in the house awake,dogs and husband still asleep, and listen to the bird conversations outside. Spring can't be too far away! Very fitting quote! Hugs, Lynda

  2. Thanks, Lynda. The early quietness of morning is nice. I enjoy watching the hummingbirds come to my feeder and the quail and their babies. Sometimes a rogue coyote will pass through. Hope you have a great day! :+}

  3. Oh I envy you in some ways. I love the mountains. My in-laws use to live in Santa Fe, and every year for about 10 years, my family would spend a good 10 days there. I would come home so energized. That is why some of my work is still influenced by the colors and the sunsets and the mountains and the Rio Grande and well so much more. Because of those trips, whenever I sit down to do an abstract landscape, I am able to use my minds eye to create it. I can still smell the pinon trees.... It looks like you had a wonderful day!

  4. Hi Kathy. Sure wish I could get out on the Colorado River a bit more. It is sooo relaxing. It was 118 degrees yesterday and only cooled down to 90 at night, so it's really too hot in this desert sun. The kayak is too heavy for me to manipulate by myself, so I wait until friends or my son want to go. The curse of having broken my lower back in several places years back. The mind's willing but the body is not. I may tell the story in my blog one day. Sorry this took so long to answer. I wish blogspot would let one know when people post.
